Grasshopper Receives Presidential Award for Exports in 2020



WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, the U.S. Department of Commerce awarded The Grasshopper Company, the 2020 President’s “E” Award for Exports. The President’s “E” Award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports. Grasshopper’s recognition of the 2020 award was delayed to 2021 due to Covid-19 restrictions.

“Your organization embodies the innovation, dynamism, and resilience characteristic of America’s business community, and you should be proud of your contributions to our commercial engagement with the global community,” said Secretary Raimondo in her congratulatory letter to the company announcing its selection.

Grasshopper manufacturers zero turning radius mowers and ground maintenance equipment that is currently sold in 54 countries around the world. In 2017, the company was selected to represent Kansas on the front lawn of the White House as part of the inaugural Made in America product showcase. 

“After decades of work to grow our international presence, this award comes as a great honor to the employees throughout our world headquarters and international importers who have worked tirelessly to promote and deliver the legendary benefits of Grasshopper equipment around the globe,” said Grasshopper President Stan Guyer. “Our vision has always been rooted in relationships and long-term goals, and the decision to enter global markets was a commitment by the entire Grasshopper team to expand our vision and our skill sets. From logistics to finance, from engineering and production to marketing, all Grasshopper employees play a key role in assuring international sales are as seamless as domestic sales. The company’s roots run deep in Kansas, and the expansion of international sales has allowed it’s employees and the region at large to benefit from the ripple effects of revenue generated from outside of the United States.”

In total, the Department honored 70 U.S. companies and organizations from across the country for their role in strengthening the U.S. economy by sharing American ingenuity outside of our borders.  The ceremony was held to jointly recognize awardees from 2021, (32 organizations) and 2020, (39 organizations).  

In 1961, President Kennedy signed an executive order reviving the World War II “E” symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America's exporters. Criteria for the award is based on four years of successive export growth in one or more international markets. 

U.S. companies are nominated for the “E” Awards through the U.S. Commercial Service, the export promotion arm of the Department’s International Trade Administration. With offices in over 100 cities across the United States and in 75 markets around the world, the International Trade Administration is the premier resource for American companies competing in the global marketplace.
