Three tips to tackle mowing large properties

Posted on:Jan 24, 2022

Mowing large amounts of acreage is not always an easy task. However, these 3 tips will help you cut hours off your #MowDay and bring a flawless finish to your entire property.

3 Tips To Tackle Mowing Large Properties

1. Make Sure You’re Using The Right Equipment

Typically, you have three options when it comes to large properties: a Tractor mower, a Ride-on mower, and a Zero Turn mower.

Tractors, while good at taking down big chunks of open field, are incapable of smoothly maneuvering in and out of obstacles like trees and are useless in the tight areas around your house, barn and fence. Ride-ons will fare better at neatly trimming those harder-to-reach areas but undoubtedly will lack the durability and power needed to stand up to the demands of your large property. A zero turn with a deck sized for the job, on the other hand, possesses all the qualities you need to mow acre after acre both quickly and neatly.

Now, when it comes to zero turn mowers it’s important to break it down even further between a FrontMountTM or a MidMountTM.

MidMount mowers are made with the cutting deck mounted underneath the operator and forward of the engine. With a compact size and quick ground speed, these zero turns will bring efficient performance to the open fields and tight spaces alike.

FrontMount mowers are made with the cutting deck mounted out-front, forward of the operator and engine. The build of the FrontMount allows you to ride above the drive tires closer to the zero-turn-radius pivot point, making them perfect for obstacle-filled terrain. FrontMounts also offer an unrivaled line of attachable implements, making them the perfect mower for large properties and various daily tasks outside of just mowing.

2. Make It Easier On Yourself

The physical toll of tackling high acreage can be exhausting. Just ask any of your commercial pro buddies, they’ll be the first to admit that the #MowDay grind can be exhausting. Don’t be afraid to split your mowing across different days, making it easier on your body and giving you a few extra hours of daylight to spend with your family in turn.

Another key element to an easier job is prep. Try walking your mowing area and clearing it of any rocks, branches, or other obstructions. Clearing your problem areas now will save you plenty of time in the long run.

Finally, if you really want to make #MowDay a breeze, try adding a little more comfort to your ride. While Grasshopper builds comfort in standard, you also have the option of kicking it up a notch with any of our comfort-boosting add-ons. From sunshade canopies to footrest risers and the lumbar seat kit,  we’ve got you covered when it comes to comfort.

3. Remember Real Speed Is More Than Just MPH

Speed is nice, but only when the finish is nice too. While a mower that flies at over 15 MPH sounds good in theory, it won’t do you much good if it doesn’t deliver a quality finish. The key to getting that large job done right lies in efficiency—or as we like to call it one-pass perfection. Whether you find yourself on a MidMount or FrontMount, if it’s Grasshopper, you can rest easy knowing that each and every pass is backed by decades of innovation and a flawless finish.

When it comes to large properties, there are a variety of factors that will impact your #MowDay plan. Remember these three tips to help make that large acreage mowing as easy as possible.
